Non-fungible tokens (NFT) are now arriving on Facebook. According to TechCrunch confirmation from Meta, the feature will give some creators in the US the power to post-digital collectibles on their profiles. There’s unclear information on when the feature will make its way to more users. Meta called this feature a “slow rollout”.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that NFT would help creators to have a digital collectibles tab on their profile where they can show off their NFTs. Creator will have the ability to use NFT as status updates that people can comment on and react to, and clicking on them shows the information on the artwork. Facebook will provide a link that compatible digital wallets with the website, similar to how they can do so on Instagram. Now, Facebook supports for two cryptocurrencies, like Ethereum and Polygon, but the company will expand the cryptocurrency like Solana and Flow NFTs, as well.
Meta started the development to make an NFT integration on Instagram in May; the next feature will allow users to use NFT as augmented reality stickers in Stories. NFTs may be more fitting addition to Instagram than Facebook, based on the platforms’ userbase, but Meta will make this feature a part of its products. The goal is Meta will expand the NFT compatibility to accross Meta family apps.
