According to YouTube Community Manager, the app will remove the overlay ads from the platform starting on April 6, 2023. Overlay ads is an ads that will display at the bottom of the video, and they’re a “legacy ad format” that is only available on desktop devices.
YouTube analyze this ad are disruptive for viewers. The company decided to improve the appearance of the ad and shift engagement to higher-performing ad formats on desktop devices; YouTube decided to axe these overlay ads for good.
However, this change hasn’t impacted smartphone users. Also, as long as you subscribe to YouTube Premium, you won’t see this annoying ad at the bottom of YouTube videos starting next month.
